AVOC will be hosting a Sprint event on Saturday,July 1, 2023 at Acadia University. Course distances are approximate. The terrain is a university campus, which includes a wooded area.

NOTE FOR PARTICIPANTS:

Prior to participating in an event, participants must complete the 2023 Orienteering NS membership process, including the Orienteering Canada waiver. There is no cost, and this is completed once per year.

We are now using a new membership registration system. The first thing it asks for is to create a login to the software. This is necessary so that the system will recognize you when you register for events and it will make next year’s registration process quicker as well!

Please complete this before your first event! (If you registered using the google form system for your first event this year, we thank you for completing the new form as well).

VOLUNTEERS would be appreciated for a few tasks associated with the event (e.g. Beginner clinic, registration, control pickup). Please see here to sign up.

Beginner Instruction - will be offered if needed. Please let us know if you are interested, and arrive at 10:00 to register. Instruction will take place at 10:15.

Courses:

This will be a point-to-point event. Controls must be visited in order. The terrain is varied - open parkland and sports fields along with wooded areas with trails.

Beginner (1.7 km): The easiest to navigate and shortest distance to cover.

Intermediate (2.5km): More route choice to challenge your navigation skills. Most controls located just off of trails or handrail features.

Advanced (3.3 km): Lots of route choice; higher technical difficulty, so good navigation skills required.

Registration:

You must have a 2023 Orienteering Canada waiver and membership form on file to participate in this event. These can be filled out online here. If you have already completed these forms in 2023, there is no need to do another one. If you reside outside of NS, you need to be registered with a home club. Follow the same link and choose Visitor (Event) Membership.

Note: Individuals may participate in the gender category of their choosing that is congruent with how they authentically live outside of the sport. No further disclosure or documentation is required.

Please follow all municipal, provincial and federal health guidelines while participating.

Please ensure you register on this website by Thursday June 29, 2023 to guarantee a map and to make check-in quick and easy for all participants.

On-site check-in will take place from 10:00am to 10:4am. Please ensure you have completed membership/waiver in advance (see above).
