INFORMATION BELOW CURRENT AS OF November 1, 2022 - Please check back for more details.

AVOC will be hosting an Orienteering Trail Run on 5 November at 12:00 noon in the Kentville Bird Sanctuary

Map: Kentville Bird Sanctuary map is from Google Earth and other related sources placed in OCAD for basic creation. There will be no contours nor Magnetic North Lines.

Concept: Idea is for participants to walk, run or jog the course of their choice but use the trail system provided on the map to make your way around the course of your choice. The idea is to have this event be a Long O in the form of a cross country run.

Courses: Basic about 2 km, Intermediate about 4 km and Long about 5.5 km. However, by following the trails you will exceed the distance posted on the Control Descriptions. All descriptions will be in English text and not using the symbol system.

In an effort to reduce waste, please bring your own water.

REMINDER - If this is your first event in 2022, please complete the required annual membership and waiver forms online in advance. This will save time and paper at registration.

VOLUNTEERS would be appreciated for a few tasks associated with the event (e.g. Registration, control pickup).

Directions: Evergreen Home For Special Care is at 655 Park St in Kentville. The Kentville Bird Sanctuary is basically behind this facility after crossing the Rail to Trail System. There are two entrances, one by a small pond next to the highway. If entering here go to the back just past a large white propane tank. There is a small parking area here. The other entrance is just beyond this first entrance and here there is a large gravel parking area. If using this area you will need to go over to where the propane take parking area is located and then just proceed along the Rail to Trail system to meet the Registration area.

NOTE: On the Google Maps it shows that the Kentville Bird Sanctuary is on the North side of the Cornwallis R. and the print is actually in a driving range of Camp Aldershot. The Sanctuary encompasses both sides of the river. A park listed as The Coldbrook Park is actually a very small Prov. Park on the North side of Hwy 1 just before Scotian Gold and across from Callister's Country Restaurant.
