NOTICE: Update May 20, 2021: Due to a sudden uptick in COVID cases in Nova Scotia and uncertainty over additional restrictions in the near future, the organizer and AVOC have decided to postpone this event until travel restrictions have been lifted. We will monitor current public health requirements and update this page with the new date (June or early July.) We wish to have anyone in the province, at least, participate. Registration:

Please ensure you register on this website (or via email to ValleyOrienteering@outlook.com) by midnight Thursday, May 27, 2021, given we must adhere to maximum participation restrictions. On-site check-in will take place on site from 11:00 to 11:45 pm. Please bring completed COVID Health Declaration (signed on day of event) and ensure you have completed membership/waiver in advance (see above).


Start:

12:00 pm; course closure will be 2:30 pm. For final on-site registration try to be at registration table by 11:30 at the latest. You may need to allow time to walk, jog to the start location.

Categories:

Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced as well as a Score (Sport) course (about 30 controls to gather in any order for the Score/Sport) You may go in your bubble (we suggest 2 - 3 max) or individually on the Score.

Course Requirements: compass along with the map and a whistle


Map: 1:7 500 scale, (note: no contours appear on this map), an Open Street redesigned map

Summary: Hilly terrain with variety of woods combined with open fields and large areas of very runnable woods.

Entry Fees:

The following are the fees for this event (pre-registered):

Senior: (age 21 and above) $10 per person
Junior: (age 20 and under) $5 per person
Maximum fee per family unit: $25
Organized Group (e.g. scouts, guides, cadets, etc.: $5 per person

SI (timing device) rental: $3 per unit

Directions:

Coming from Halifax take Exit 14 at Coldbrook and turn left off the ramp. Coming from Middleton/Digby take Exit 14 and turn right on Hwy #1.Follow this road, Hwy # 1, West toward Cambridge / Berwick. Go past Frenchy’s (on right)and then a set of lights. Continue West, past FoodLand, Coldbrook which is a grocery store on N side of Hwy 1. Just West, past Foodland, is the NS Fish Hatchery on your left. Now look for Spittal Rd on your left or South side of Hwy 1. Take Spittal Rd and follow S. It is a gravel surface road. After about 1.5 km you will reach a left 90 deg turn. At this turn is Hobby Horse Farm on your right.

The Event Director, Jim Blanchard, will provide some photos of the area, without snow, over the next few weeks.

FOUND: a pair of snowshoes in the area of Hobby Horse Farm during the snowshoe event. Did someone take off there snowshoes to go faster and forgot where they took them off or lost them?? Claim by identifying the type and size!!!
