Dick James Memorial: Dick James was a founding member of the Orienteering Association of Nova Scotia and a past Board member of Orienteering Canada. His passion for Orienteering was reflected in the thousands of hours he devoted to growing the sport over the years. Proceeds from this event will be donated to Orienteering Canada's Junior Development Program. As this event is a fundraiser for junior development, participation of juniors is highly encouraged.

Participants are required to read and comply with the Orienteering Canada COVID-related guidelines below:

• You must have a 2021 Orienteering Canada waiver and membership form on file to participate in this event (if you have already completed these forms in 2021, there is no need to do another one. If you reside outside of NS, you need to be registered with a home club). These can be filled out online here REGISTRATION AND WAIVER . (Waiver only for those registered with a club outside NS).
• On the day of the event, please complete the COVID HEALTH DECLARATION. Please do not come to the event if you have travelled outside of the province in the previous 14 days or have any COVID symptoms.
• Participants are expected to be familiar with Orienteering Canada's GUIDELINES FOR CLUB ORIENTEERING ACTIVITIES.
• Please remember to bring proof of vaccination for all participants 12 and older per NS Public Health Guidelines for organized sporting events. A FREE Beginners Clinic will be offered for those interested in learning more about Orienteering. Basic skills such as how to read an orienteering map and do simple navigation will be included. The beginners’ clinic will be held from 10:15-10:45am. Registration for the beginners clinic will be at 10:00am. A waiver will be required, and beginners wanting to try a course after the clinic will also need a membership form (see above for details). Fees will apply to the course, however there is no charge for the clinic.

Courses:

There will be 3 courses available.

Beginner course - The controls will be located along trails or just off the trail.

Intermediate - Controls will be near trails, but there will be more route choices between controls.

Advanced - Technically challenging

Registration:

Please ensure you register on this website (or via email to ValleyOrienteering@outlook.com) by midnight Thursday, Dec 9, 2021. On-site check-in will take place on site from 10:00 to 10:45 am. Please bring completed COVID Health Declaration (signed on day of event) and ensure you have completed membership/waiver in advance (see above).

Registration will be inside so please bring a mask.

Last minute registration: This can be done on site, but to know how many maps to print we like you to register early. Also, pre-registration allows the on site details to move more quickly.

Start: 11:00 am; course closure will be 1:30 pm. For final on-site registration try to be at registration table by 10:45 at the latest.

Entry Fees: The following are the fees for this event (pre-registered), add $5 for day of registrations:

Senior: (age 21 and above) $10 per person

Junior: (age 20 and under) $2 per person

Organized Group (e.g. scouts, guides, cadets, etc.: $5 per person)

SI (timing device) rental: $3 per unit

Maximum fee per family unit: $25

Note: Junior registration is set at a nominal amount as we are encouraging as many youth to participate as possible. Also, all funds from this event go to Orienteering Canada for Junior Athlete Development across Canada.

Directions: Near Windsor NS take exit 5 off the 101, head east on the 14 to Irishmans road (dirt) and turn right, after approximately 700m turn left into the the Irishmans recreational site.
